1.) Transcendentalism started in 1836 when Ralph Waldo Emerson, a former Unitarian pastor, published an essay entitled "Nature".
2.) It's core principle is that of individualism.
3.) They thought that religion and faith ultimately tainted one's individuality.
4.) They believed in the essential goodness of all mankind and nature.
5.) Transcendentalism slowly fell out of favor in the 1840s, and eventually disappeared entirely.
